There is ONE restaurant that offers chicken parm. Not simply chicken parm, but the best I have ever eaten in my life. It is called Hostaria del Moro but it is better known as Tony’s in Trastevere. They bring it out in a hot skillet and it is covered with so much sauce and cheese that it looks like a pizza. It’s far from a pizza, but delicious juicy chicken (a rarity in itself, in Rome). I can’t say enough good things about it! What is so great is that Tony’s knows their target audience. Americans love Chicken parm. It is not hard to make, so why not make us happy and make money at the same time?
You will recognize Tony the second you walk in the door. He is the Italian with long hair, glasses around his neck, and a huge smile on his face greeting you! He is there to make the

experience everything you want. Frequent free desserts and the check being lowered just because, how can you go wrong?
I have also had their Spaghetti con Vongole (clams), Fettuccini al Pesto, Fetteccini al Salmone, and Spaghetti Bolognese . All, delicious as well!
You cannot go wrong at Tony's!
I was so surprised when I found out that chicken parm wasn't an italian dish also! It is in all of our Italian restaurants back in the United States. Italy definitly needs to start making the dish. I can't believe you found a restaurant that serves this, I am so jealous. It is so strange to see how our idea of Italian food is so different then what Italian food in Italy really is. The food is so fresh, I'm going to miss is when I go home!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. The first thing I asked the waiter in Florence was “Do you have chicken parm?” and he looked at me like I had two heads. I’m glad you blogged about this because at home, my favorite “Italian” dish is chicken parm, but apparently it isn’t Italian at all. I find it funny how in the States we tend to put labels on food that aren’t necessarily accurate. For example, many of my favorite “Chinese” dishes are just so Americanized that they wouldn’t be recognizable in China.
ReplyDeleteI also really liked the Spaghetti con Vongole, Fettuccini al Pesto, and the Spaghetti with Mussels, but I’d have to say my favorite Italian dish during my 10-day stay in Italy was hands down the Spaghetti alla Carbonara (spaghetti in a white/egg cream sauce with bacon or ham). I think I gained at least 10 pounds by just eating this dish. If I could do it over again, I would definitely study abroad anywhere in Italy simply because of the terrific food.
